                   Mission Statement for Department of Health and Physical Education

The State College Area School District strives to provide instructional programs and services that contribute to the quality of life. Physical Education involves the learning of skills, acquisition of knowledge, and development of attitudes through human movement. Physical Education is that part of the total process of education which utilizes games, sport, aquatics, dance, and health fitness activities to help the individual achieve the goals of education. Well-defined programs of physical education provide a systemic progression of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor experiences as the students pass through various development stages during their tenure in school.

The Physical Education Department is committed to providing a quality physical education program. As a result of participation in the State College Area School District physical education program, each student will be expected to:

    * LEARN skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities.
    * PARTICIPATE regularly in physical activity.
    * BE physically fit.
    * KNOW the implications and benefits from involvement in physical activities.
    * VALUE physical activity and its contributions to a healthful lifestyle.

Physical Education involves the learning of skills, the acquisition of knowledge and the development of attitudes through movement. Physical education is that part of the total process of education which utilizes games, sport, aquatics, dance, and health fitness activities to help the individual achieve the goals of education.
