                                                                 Classroom Expectations

Behavior:
     • Show RESPECT for others.  No making fun of others, one person speaks at a time, do not touch other

        student's materials or belongings.
     • Come PREPARED for class.  Students should have a pen/pencil, current health packet, Teen Health

book, assignment book, and any other materials given by the teacher for that particular unit.
                        For unacceptable behavior:
                                                        1st offense--warning.
                                                        2nd offense--removal from class--student and teacher conference.
                                                        3rd offense--parent/guardian phone call.
                                                        4th offense--referral to administration.

Seating Chart:

Will be picked by the students at the beginning of the school year.  Once the seating chart is established, each class will be given 3 strikes (chances) to keep the seating chart they created.  After three strikes, the seating chart will be teacher created.  Warnings are given to the class before a strike is given.

Packets:

Packet points will vary from unit to unit.  Packet completion and assignments can have a tremendous effect on an individual's grade.  Students will always be notified one to two weeks ahead of time before a packet is due.  It will appear on the bulletin board in the health classroom and on the calendar on my webpage.  Packets will be accepted after the due date--but not for full credit--late points will be deducted from the grade.  Three classes after the due date--parent/guardian will be notified that the student has failed to turn in a packet.  A student will receive a zero for not turning in a packet.

Classroom work and homework:

Students will be expected to finish classroom work during the scheduled class period.  Any classroom work not completed in class will be assigned for homework.  Regular homework will be assigned on a limited basis.  Most homework assignments will take between 10-15 minutes to complete.  At the end of a lesson, students will be given an opportunity to begin or even finish that night's homework.

Late work:

Students must turn in homework or classroom assignments by the end of the unit.  For every class period that an assignment is not turned in--one point is deducted.  For example, if the assignment is worth five points--it will take five class periods before a student receives a zero for that assignment.  If a student is absent--he/she can still receive full credit for the assignment.  Once the unit test has been given or the packet has been collected--any remaining assignments for the unit that are missing will be changed to a zero.

Unit tests, quizzes, and packet due dates:

Students who miss quizzes, unit tests, or packet due dates MUST see me ASAP.  Please do not wait until the next health class--it could be a week before a student sees me again.  These items may or may not be made up during class time.  (Done on an individual basis--depends on what is being covered in class that day.)  If a student cannot make up the work during class--AREA or study halls will be used.  All legal absences--are excused.  Passes to the nurse (except in emergencies) without my permission on a due date--results in a zero--parent/guardian will be notified.

Grading:

Grades are calculated by a total number of points for the semester.  Each assignment will receive a point total.  Packets are a large component of the point total.  Progress reports will be given to those students who have less than a 70% at midterm.  Grades are given twice a year--January and June.
